The Swedish Club of South Australia is a relatively new organisation, having been founded in 2006 with the purpose of promoting and maintaining interest in the Swedish culture and customs, promoting good fellowship in the Swedish community and maintaining the Swedish language among adults and children.

It all started when a few acquaintances from the Swedish Community met at the office of the Swedish Honorary Consul, Mr David Seaton on March 2 2006 to discuss the prospect of and interest in establishing a Swedish club in South Australia.

The club was formally established on April 19 2006 at the Adelaide Sailing Club in the presence of the Swedish Ambassador to Australia, Her Excellency Mrs Karin Ehnbom-Palmquist.

The inaugural general meeting was held on May 12 2006 where an executive committee was elected.

The club's first traditional event was the Midsummer celebrations on June 24 2006 and was a great success with 110 people attending.

Since the inception of the club there has been an increase in the membership and a number of events including Lucia celebrations, Quiz nights, Pub evenings and Viking nights organised for the benefit of Swedes and their families and others interested in or otherwise connected to Sweden.
